Life of a Traveling Mommy

I  have officially decided that I am not cut out to be a traveling Mommy. I am too obsessed with my family, I enjoy the luxury of my own home, I enjoy not getting dressed up EVERY day, and I get sick when I travel. For each of those reason the past couple of weeks have been really rough for this Mommy!

It started two weeks ago, when I was assigned a job in Chicago that required me to travel there for 3 weeks. Fortunately I was able to negotiate weekends at home, but it still made for two VERY long weeks away from my family.

Here are the things I have learned (don't ask how I learned):
1. When traveling to Chicago in January - do not forget your hat and gloves!
2. 8 blocks doesn't sound that far, until it is below 10 degrees outside (without said hat and gloves). Then all of a sudden 8 blocks seems like 10 miles away.
3. Thermals are a MUST
4. It is a BAD idea to buy new shoes (even if they look more suitable for cold weather) a couple of days before you travel. You will end up having blisters for the remainder of your stay!
5. If people up north offer to take you to eat Mexican food (because you are from Texas), refuse at all costs! It is not the same, not even close, and is not worth your time or money.
6. Skype is a MUST. It makes the evenings just a bit more bearable.
7. Find out where a local pharmacy is....you never know when you will need it!
8. Carry a bunch of cash. Apparently everyone expects you to tip, including cab drivers, cab callers, door openers, etc...
9. Public transportation is a whole new world. Figure out where you are going (need to get on / off) BEFORE you get there!
10. Ice cream dates, followed by play time at the park ALMOST makes it all better!

**AND - Daddy may not do things the same way as Mommy. The house might not be quite as clean, and the laundry may pile up, but he did just fine! I am so proud of my boys but pray we do not have to do this much longer**

To all you traveling Mommy's out there - God Bless You. I don't know how you do it! I have to travel two days this week, and another full week the following but pray to be grounded for a while after that. I can already tell it is affecting Hunter with me being gone so much and that just breaks my heart! So my blogging may remain slow for the next couple of weeks, but I hope to get back on track shortly after that!
