I learned it from my Grandmother

Hunter is obsessed with police, fire fighters, ambulances, etc. In fact, he said he wants to be a "fighter fighter" for Halloween. I asked what Lauran should be and he said without hesitation "an ambulance driver." He notices every emergency response vehicle and station and constantly asks me questions about why they have their lights on, if we have to move out of their way, where they are going, and on and on. At one point, a while ago, I told him that my Grandmother taught me a really cool thing. I told him that when you see an emergency vehicle that you should always say a quick prayer that God help the people who are waiting for help and watch over the police/fire fighters/ambulance drivers so that they stay safe. At the time we had seen a fire truck go by so I said a quick prayer.

Fast forward to tonight on the way home from dinner with friends. It was starting to get dark so it was easy to spot the police officer with their lights on headed the opposite direction on the highway. Hunter had been pestering me to smell his feet. He kept telling me that they didn't stink so I could smell them, but I didn't want to risk it. He thought it was hilarious because he knew how stinky his feet were. Immediately he noticed the police car. We talked about how he was driving fast and going to help someone. Then we quit talking about it and I heard in the sweetest little voice from the back seat...

"Dear Jesus, please help the police man drive really fast. And please help the people not get stuck. Amen."

I am thankful to have had such great role models growing up and thankful that my little bear picks up on all of the important things in life -- like how his feet are stinky and people can always use our prayers.
