Krause Springs

Clint, Hunter and I loaded up in the car on a Friday night to head to Austin. The reason we went was that my work was having a family picnic day at Krause Springs. Krause Springs is located in Spicewood, which is about 40 miles north of Austin, and it is a family owned park. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was probably used by Native Americans for centuries before white settlers arrived. There are 32 springs throughout the campground. Two springs feed the 70' by 20' swimming pool at a rate of 70 gallons a minute at a temperature of about 70 degrees. The springs have never slowed down, even during severe drought.

We had no idea this place existed before this work picnic but we had a blast and are already looking for good excuses to meet family here for a mini-vacation.

The water was SO cold that even Hunter wasn't sure about getting in.

Back behind the waterfalls was a series of caves. Unfortunately the water was too cold for us so we didn't swim out there to explore.

If you asked Hunter about his favorite part of this trip he probably said the watermelon. We had never let him eat watermelon like this before and he LOVED it. Between him and Clint they ate 3 pieces.
