Our Angel Grandma

On December 1st, her 92nd birthday, Grandma Laskoskie suffered a massive stroke. They got her to the hospital as soon as possible but there was extensive damage and at her age we knew it would be tough for her to recover. That weekend, the boys went to the deer lease and Clint talked to Hunter about how Jesus might come and take Grandma home soon. Hunter has always adored Grandma so Clint was doing his best to ease Hunter into this. The recap of their conversation went like this:

D: Baby, Jesus is probably going to go come take Grandma home soon.
H: But why?
D: Because Grandma is very sick and when she goes with Jesus she will feel better.
H: Well....because Grandma is an angel?
D: Yes baby, Grandma is an angel.
H: Well Daddy, I am an angel too....and so is Lauran, and you, and Mommy.

{tears}

Grandma, in true Laskoskie style, hung on tight until December 10th when Jesus took her home. It broke our hearts, but we knew there was no other person more ready for heaven than Grandma! She was hands down the most religious person I have ever known. When she said she would pray for you, she not only meant it but did it right there while you were on the phone or by her side. The first time I ever went to go meet her we started to walk in the house and she hollered at us to come in a different door. She wanted us to come in the door that had the cross over it so that we would be blessed. She prayed for us and our children and entire family daily.

When Clint and I were engaged we were struggling because his entire family is Catholic, but I am not. I wanted to get married in the church that I grew up in. Clint was okay with that but it would be breaking all of his family traditions. Clint went and talked to Grandma about what was on his heart. With no questions asked, she calmed all his fears, and told him it was most important to find a true believer of Jesus who loves and adores you....not to let the words of "religion" get in the way of faith and relationships. When he talked to her and we got her blessing I knew that everything would be ok. She gave me peace at heart and I just knew that it was going to be ok! She not only loved me for me but she counted me as one of hers and it meant the world to me.

We named Hunter "Gerard" after Clint, who was named after Ralph, who was named after Saint Gerard by Grandma (and Grandpa) Laskoskie. I knew that meant the world to her because she always called Hunter "my Hunter Gerard." Her neighbor came over one day and said, oh this is Hunter Gerard? She must of talked about him :) She was sharp, witty, and sincere, and I pray that I can keep just a little of all she had to offer to make me a better person, wife, and mother!

We told Hunter after Grandma passed...

D: Jesus took Grandma home with him. She is in heaven now.
H: She is dancing with Jesus....and she isn't old anymore!

{What Hunter didn't know is Grandma LOVED to dance and I know she was doing just that! .... again TEARS!}

The day of the viewing, we found out Hunter had the flu. We were trying to keep him away from everyone. It was really confusing for him to see Grandma "sleeping" and try to understand that her body was here but she was really with Jesus. He told me he really wanted to kiss Grandma.

H: I want to kiss Grandma
M: No baby, just blow her sugars
H: So I don't get Grandma sick?
M: No baby, you can't get Grandma sick. She is all better in heaven now.
H: I think she is sleeping. I hope she can wake up and come home. When does she get to go home?
M: She is home with Jesus now baby.... :(

That sweet boy amazes me daily with his love and understanding. He loves saying the "long prayers" with Daddy, watches intently at church, says he wants to be like that man that does this {makes the sign of the cross} talking about the priest.....I am confident that Grandma will be proud of him and that his sweet sister Lauran will be right behind him.

We love you always and miss you Grandma!

Hunter & Daddy talked and Hunter said that next time he goes to the deer lease he is going to find Grandma's star. He was worried that he wouldn't know which star was Grandma's but we told him to look for the brightest one...he would know! :)
