One of the reasons that I love basketball as much as I do is because it was an excellent excuse to get to hang out with my Daddy. And he was so clever in teaching me so many life lessons through basketball and that time we had together. If you know my Dad, you know that he has a very calm temperament, never curses, and hardly raises his voice. Instead he had a slew of sayings that were either teaching points, something to get to your pride, or something to motivate you. One of the many sayings that has stuck with me is, "the crazier things get, the calmer you get." As a point guard playing basketball that was very important lesson to not only understand but to execute. I was in charge of controlling the basketball, the situation, and my team. I realize that at the time he was talking about the game, but I can't tell you how many times I play that over and over in my head for real life situations.
Hunter has pushed me to run that through my head many many times. So I was driving to Dallas (a 4 hour drive) with a kid that doesn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time. I had just passed through Buffalo with the next stop being Fairfield. Of course there is NOTHING in the 15 mile stretch between the two and that is exactly when Hunter started screaming. So as I am driving on the highway trying to figure out if it is better to turn around and go back to town or push through, trying to find the pacifier, and trying to find his mouth to put it in while Hunter is screaming....I heard my Dad...."the crazier things get, the calmer you get." So I drove 15 miles reaching into the back seat, holding a pacifier in his mouth. My shoulder killed me the next day but we safely and quietly made it to Fairfield where we stopped for a break.
We made it safe and sound and Hunter was greeted by the crew. He isn't spoiled or anything is he?

Thank you so much for making the trip!! Daddy enjoyed every minute of watching you grow up. You always made us both very proud! love you!
