Gone Hunting

Well....the tradition continues....or as Clint says "it really is in our blood." Clint took Hunter deer hunting for the first time with him the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Note: Hunter is a ripe old age of 2 1/2.

Our friend has some land in New Waverly, about 15 miles north of us, and sometimes they let Clint go hunting. Clint asked if he could bring Hunter. They started out the afternoon fishing in the pond. Hunter threw back so many fish that him and Daddy caught that his thumbs were all torn up by the fishies "teeth."

This was their biggest fish of the afternoon at about 5lbs

Then they got all set up in their pop-up blind to get ready for the deer. Daddy was prepared and had packed Hunter his chair and snacks and everything. Life is good!

About 20 minutes into hunting, Hunter started crying. Clint thought Hunter was tired of sitting there and was prepared to pack up the stuff to go home. He asked Hunter what was wrong and he said, "I want the deer to wake up." Side note: When we are driving in the mornings and evenings we look for deer. When we don't see any I ask Hunter where they are and he always says they are "night night." So since he wasn't seeing the deer he thought they were sleeping and wanted them to wake up.

Clint felt so bad so he started search frantically for a deer with his binoculars. Apparently he doesn't use his binocular too often. And guess what? There were some deer out there. Clint got Hunter to put his ear muffs on cover his ears. He got as steady as he could and took a shot. He said the deer was 275 yards away, and there was no way he hit the deer.

But it was meant to be! So on their very first deer hunt together, Daddy and Hunter got a deer.

The only bad part was the land was really rough and bumpy with high weeds so Hunter didn't want to walk. So Daddy had to drag the deer, the pop-up blind, their chairs, his gun, his extra tools, snacks, etc all while holding Hunter on his shoulders. Yes, he was sore the next day. He eventually bribed Hunter to walk telling him he would give him candy. HaHa!

They brought the deer home to clean it and Hunter loved every second of it. Look how proud he was of his deer.

He helped Daddy clean the deer. He proudly marched around the garage holding deer legs. (I will post more pictures of that) but it had me laughing so hard because he is JUST like his Daddy. And I couldn't be happier.... EXCEPT for the fact that he keeps picking to hunting with Daddy over staying home with Mommy!
